PETALUMA (CBS SF) — An undercover sting operation at Sonoma County courthouses by the Petaluma and Santa Rosa police departments resulted in six arrests on Thursday, according to Petaluma police.

The operation at Sonoma County courts targeted suspected DUI drivers who made a court appearance for driving without a license or had their licenses either suspended or revoked, police said.

The people were told by a judge not to drive or had their license suspended then officers followed each person from the courtroom to their vehicles, according to police.

The officers followed the people to make sure they were not driving, police said.

Some people found an alternate means of transportation but six people who had been in court violated the judge’s order and drove away, police said.

The waiting officers stopped the six people who were cited back to court, according to police.

The six people may face more charges such as additional jail time and long driver license suspensions, police said.

The operation was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
